Crispy Baked BBQ Party Wings

These crispy baked party wings are marinated for 24 hours with my special spice rub that infuses chili, paprika, garlic and onion. The skin is baked crispy and the meat is fall off the bone tender. If you love party wings, this recipe is a keeper.

Oven Baked BBQ Wings Recipe

Stop settling for soggy wings! These crispy oven-baked BBQ wings deliver a deep, smoky flavor and a perfect crunch that rivals any deep fryer. The secret lies in a custom special dry rub—a savory blend of chili powder, smoked paprika, granulated garlic, and onion. This rub creates a seasoned crust that locks in moisture while the high heat of the oven, on the convection bake setting, renders the skin to golden perfection.

Whether you’re prepping for a weekend game or a family dinner, these homemade BBQ wings are incredibly easy to pull off. Tossed in your favorite sauce or served dry rub style to let the spices shine, this recipe is a guaranteed winner for anyone craving bold, barbecue flavor with minimal cleanup.

Why These Wings Work

  • High-Heat Crunch: Baking at the right temperature, and on the convection bake setting, ensures the skin gets crispy while the meat stays tender and juicy.
  • The Special Rub: The combination of chili and paprika provides a beautiful mahogany color and a subtle heat that balances the boldness of the hot sauce.
  • Healthier Alternative: Enjoy all the satisfaction of a classic wing night with a fraction of the oil used in traditional frying.

These Baked BBQ Party Wings are proof that you don’t need a deep fryer to get wings that are crispy on the outside, tender and juicy on the inside, and packed with flavor in every single bite. The secret? A long, patient marinade—24 to 48 hours in a blend of vegetable oil, hot sauce, fresh lemon, and my own homemade dry rub. That extra time lets the flavor sink deep into the meat, so every wing tastes like it came straight from your favorite BBQ joint.

Whether you’re feeding a hungry game-day crowd or just craving a finger-licking dinner, these wings deliver. Pop them in the oven for an easy hands-off bake, or toss them on the BBQ grill for that irresistible smoky char.

Why You’ll Love These Baked BBQ Party Wings

The homemade dry rub does all the heavy lifting—sweet paprika, sugar, chili powder, garlic, onion, and parsley come together for a perfectly balanced, crave-worthy flavor.

The Secret Is in the 24–48 Hour Marinade

Marinating for a full day or two guarantees deeply flavorful, tender wings that never taste bland.

Crispy Without the Fryer

No oil splatter, no mess—just golden, crispy wings straight from your oven. One of the best parts of this recipe is its versatility. Pop these wings in the oven for guaranteed crispy results with zero mess from frying, or take them straight to the BBQ grill for that smoky, charred finish. Either way, you get restaurant-quality party wings at home.

I never met a chicken wing I didn’t like. Deep fried, baked, grilled or smoked, I’ll take it all. But what makes an okay wing recipe and extraordinary one? It’s all in the rub! I love this rub so much that I make a big jar of it and use it on other chicken, ribs, pork butt and briskets. These wings are marinated for 24 to 48 hours so the flavor is infused all the way to the bones. In this recipe, we will simply bake them. But if you have a smoker, be sure to check out my Smoked BBQ Wings.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 4 to 5 pounds of party wings

Marinade

  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup of hot sauce (like Frank’s Red Hot)
  • 1/2 cup dry rub (recipe here)
  • 1/2 lemon, squeezed

Instructions

  • Combine all the marinade ingredients until mixed together well. Pour the marinade over the wings and use tongs or gloved hands (the acid and hot sauce might irritate sensitive skin) and mix the marinade into the wings until every wing is thoroughly coated.
  • Marinate in a lidded air-tight container or zip lock bag(s). Refrigerate for 24 to 48 hours.
  • Line a large baking sheet with foil and a wire rack. Arrange your wings close but not touching on the rack. Allow any excess marinade to drip off the wings while you pre-heat the oven to 325°F on convection bake.
  • Bake for 13 to 14 minutes. Take the baking sheet out of the oven and flip each wing over. Return to oven bake for another 13 to 14 minutes, watching closely during the last few minutes for browning. Cook until the wings are slightly brown and crispy at the edges.
  • Serving option: Celery, Carrots and Blue Cheese Dip

❓ FAQ’s for Crispy Baked BBQ Party Wings

How long should I marinate the wings?

For the best flavor, marinate your party wings for 24 to 48 hours. The extended time allows the dry rub, hot sauce, and lemon to fully penetrate the meat, making them incredibly flavorful and tender.

Can I make these wings on the grill instead of baking?

Absolutely! While these wings bake up beautifully crispy in the oven, you can also toss them on the BBQ grill for a delicious smoky char.

How do I get baked wings crispy without frying?

The magic comes from the oil in the marinade plus a proper convection bake. There’s no need to fry—the wings crisp up naturally in the oven for a healthier, less messy result.

What’s in the homemade dry rub?

My signature dry rub combines sweet paprika, sugar, chili powder, minced onion, granulated garlic, granulated onion, dried parsley, and kosher salt for a perfectly balanced sweet-and-savory flavor.

Can I make the dry rub ahead of time?

Yes! Mix a batch of the dry rub in advance and store it in an airtight container so it’s ready whenever a wing craving strikes.

Are these wings spicy?

They have a gentle kick from the hot sauce and chili powder, but they’re more flavorful than fiery. Adjust the hot sauce up or down to suit your taste.

Can I scale this recipe for a big party?

Definitely—this recipe scales easily. Just keep your wings in a single layer while baking so they crisp up evenly.

How do I store and reheat leftover wings?

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days. Reheat in the oven at 350°F until warmed through and crispy again.
